Giannelli Exhausts, why I fit them when tuning

Giannelli Exhausts, in my opinion, out of all the performance race exhaust manufacturers out there, deliver the best possible combination of price, performance and reliability, which are the three main things to consider when fitting an exhaust to a road tuned scooter.
I’ve had experience with LeoVince exhausts, Hebo exhausts, Kundo exhausts, Technigas exhausts and many other major brands of performance exhaust manufactures, but in my mind Giannelli Exhausts have always proved to be the best I could fit when tuning 50cc scooters.
The problem I’ve always found in the past is that shops who supply parts only tend to push the cheaper brands more than the quality exhausts as there is a lot more mark-up in them, especially brands like Technigas. From working as a mechanic in a dedicated scooter shop, we always refused to sell cheaper brands as it was us who would be fitting them 9 times out of 10, and us people would complain to when their mates scooters ended up faster because they had a cheap Technigas exhaust fitted, so we quickly found out that Giannelli Exhausts offer the best package for tuning road scooters.
My personal favourite Giannelli Exhaust is the Giannelli “Reverse” Exhaust which retails at around £117.99, as this delivers the best performance and is very well made out of many individually welded cones. For those on a budget however, Giannelli Exhausts also offer a slightly cheaper model called the Giannelli “Extra”, which retails at about £87. This exhaust isn’t made up of individual sections and is just 2 sides welded and pressure-blown out, however it still offers excellent performance that is only marginally less that its big brother, the Giannelli Reverse. I think there is about 0.5bhp difference between both Giannelli exhausts if I remember correctly.
The thing that has always won it for me with Giannelli Exhausts is however, the fact that Giannelli exhausts aren’t sold as “race only” like most aftermarket performance exhausts. This means they’re e-marked and road legal, although most people don’t care either way as hardly anyone checks the stamping regardless. The big factor with this nonetheless, is it means that all Giannelli Exhausts come with a warranty as they’re designed for road use. So as long as your Giannelli Exhaust is bought from a VE-UK dealer (as far as my knowledge goes, I cannot guarantee other Giannelli Exhaust importers offer any kind of warranty) and is fitted by a qualified mechanic, it’ll be covered against manufacturing faults for a year.
Another nice thing about Giannelli Exhausts is the fact that they don’t come with a restrictor cone welded into the downpipe like other brands so are 100% derestricted ready for increasing your scooters performance from the word go. I recently spent some time helping one of this sites readers diagnose his scooter wasn’t running as well as it should be, and it turned out he never broke the restrictor cone off his Technigas exhaust he had purchased.
For some brands, Giannelli Exhausts also come packaged with the correct rollers for use with an otherwise stock scooter (Yamaha and Peugeot do as far as I can remember). Piaggio engined scooters (Piaggio / Gilera / 2004+ Aprilia) don’t have any rollers supplied with them, and these require 5.5g rollers fitting which are available as genuine parts from Piaggio.
All Giannelli exhausts are manufactured from mild steel and come painted in heat resistant lacquer; this does wear off after a while and like any performance exhaust, will cause the Giannelli exhaust to rust if you don’t apply heat proof paint at every service. If you prefer something a little flashy, chrome plated Giannelli Extra’s are also available.

Hi mate,
The way performance exhausts work is by sacrificing low end torque for high end power, when tuning everything is a trade off
My advice is make sure you have the correct rollers fitted so it keeps the engine spinning at the optimum rpm, and maybe fit some slightly stronger clutch springs so it bites a little later
If you want some real bottom end acceleration, fit a Malossi 70cc big bore kit - no amount of messing with rollers and springs can beat a 40% capacity increase =)

Hi Aprilia,
You can get a Giannelli Freeway exhaust for your bike, in the London area I reccommend Piaggio Center.
The exhaust doesn’t make that much difference to your bike however, I’d recommend getting the 210cc Malossi big bore kit first, it’ll give you more power per pound than an exhaust =)

I have a 50cc Sinnis Pioneer. Would a Giannelli reverse exhaust or an extra fit this bike? I was thinking about a technogas but after reading your blog, I wonder if this may be the better option. Or is there something else you can recommend? I live in middway between Bedford/Cambridge if you could suggest somewho supplies and fits

I have no idea if Giannelli make them for your bike to be honest, if you can try and find something better than Technigas, I’d only fit one of them as a last resort, try LeoVince as well to see if they make any for your bike
WY50QT-39A is your engine model as far as I’m aware on your bike, so you may find an exhaust for the same engine but listed under another bike, since so many chinese scooters just use the same bits under different names.

Hi Admin
Came across this site after pulling my hair out with my lads scooter. He has a giannelli system & a polini variator, after messing with different rollers it seems the bike like 5 grams or less. Any bigger & it slugs along til it gets to 20mph then its as if a turbo kicks in & it flies. Problem is it seems to be flattening off the rollers every 2 weeks . This leads to major tantrums when he cannot get me to fit them.
When we initially bought it the bike flew but had a technigas can fitted with 8 gram rollers.
I assume the jet has been changed but what size jet a. is standard & b. do i need to fit
Any help appreciated. PS what are these boost chambers ? another money gimmick ?
Regards
David

I have a speedfight 2, which has been de ristricted, and to do so all u have to do is unscreen the plate on the back of the variator and either get a de risticted sports exhaust or cut off the pipe/tube that comes out just down from were the exhaust goes into the engin and weld the hole closed or whatever, i cut it off, welded it closed, then welded the tube back on so it looks restricted. my bike was runnning at just under 30mph wen restricted, now it does a little over 40mph which isnt all that. so im workin on getting differnt bits like exhausts ect. I no that alot of exhausts will only work best with 70cc engins, im guessing becaust the first thing people will do is buy a 70cc kit but i red an article about which exhausts to buy and not to buy and what work well with what and they said that the giannelli reverse works with 50cc (standard) and 70cc (among a load of others) , i was wondering if the gianelli extra will work just the same?

i was looking for the gianelli reverse pipes and seem to find one for the piaggio nrg power dt and one for the piaggio nrg power dd, what is the difference between the air cooled pipe and the liquid cooled pipe. which one should i get for my Piaggio NRG Power DT 2006.
will this fit the bike, im asking because it fits older bikes aswel and i heard that there is a 2mm drop with the newer bikes:
