Peugeot Speedfight 50cc Tuning Guide
Categories: 50cc Tuning, Featured, General Tuning, Performance Parts, Scooter Manufacturers
Written By: admin
Although the Peugeot Speedfight 50cc engine is quite slow out the crate, the engine (especially the LC 50cc version) is very responsive to tuning as long as you use the right parts. As with other brands of scooters, always go for the best quality parts when tuning Peugeot Speedfight 50cc’s and not any old cheap crap. The same 2 stroke engine is fitted to most Peugeot scooters, so this guide also applies to the Vivacity, Jet Force C-Tech, Ludix & Blaster models.
Peugeot Speedfight 50cc Tuning: Performance Exhaust
Although I usually recommend fitting a Giannelli exhaust to most 50cc scooters when tuning, Peugeot Speedfights work very well with LeoVince performance exhausts as well.
For the Peugeot Speedfight, both these exhausts are similar priced with the LeoVince ZX being £126 and the Giannelli Reverse exhaust being £117.
As always, the decision is between maximum power and reliability; the LeoVince ZX is a slightly higher performing exhaust and has roller weights included with it, but the Giannelli Reverse comes with a warranty.
When tuning Peugeot Speedfights, bear in mind LeoVince exhausts come with a restrictor cone in the manifold end of the exhaust that is tack welded on, you’ll need to grind / hammer / chisel this off unless you want a restricted moped again!
Depending on what year your Peugeot Speedfight 50cc is, you may need to go up 2-4 sizes on the main jet when fitting your exhaust.
Peugeot Speedfight 50cc Tuning: Performance 70cc Big Bore Kit
LC Peugeot Speedfight Motors:
Malossi only produce their Malossi MHR Replica 70cc big bore cylinder kits for tuning the Peugeot Speedfight LC models and this weigh in at £225. Although these are a very good kit and produce bucket loads of power, they love to rev and make this power at higher rpm. I prefer to get road tuned scooters making their power at lower rpm as it is better for reliability and easier to setup.
Polini produce a cast iron 70cc big bore kit for the Peugeot Speedfight 50cc LC (£132) which I’ve had excellent results with when used in combination with a LeoVince ZX. Using this combination will allow a Speedfight LC to be almost as fast as Piaggio motors with a similar setup
AC Peugeot Speedfight Motors:
Malossi do manufacture a cast iron 70cc big bore kit for this engine, which is £122, or Polini do a alloy cylinder kit for it at £107 although I prefer to use the Malossi cast iron whenever possible for tuning road scooters. If it does go bang, then you can rebore them and just fit an oversized piston, instead of having to buy a complete new kit.
When tuning Peugeot Speedfight 50cc’s with big bore kits, you’ll usually have to increase the main jet another 6-8 sizes or so.
Peugeot Speedfight 50cc Tuning: Performance carb
The standard carb on these uses a stupid bolt on mount which makes finding just a replacement carb difficult; I’ve used 19mm Arreche carbs which bolt on in the past with poor results. Luckily, the Peugeot Speedfight 100 comes with a 17.5mm Dell’orto as standard, and its inlet manifold also fits the Peugeot Speedfight 50cc crankcases, making it an ideal tuning part as you can pick them up from breakers or eBay, and it is essentially the same as a new Malossi carb anyway
Peugeot Speedfight 50cc Tuning: Performance Variator
As per my usual recommendation, buy Malossi every time and you won’t go far wrong. An aftermarket Variator will help acceleration and top speed slightly, and if your Speedfight has been restricted for a long time and worn a grove in the standard Variator, it’ll cure that and stop it bogging at 30mph.
After tuning your Peugeot Speedfight, it is probably worth upgrading the suspension also, as the standard units are poor at best, and usually have failed by their 1st or 2nd MoT test

i have a 50 and 100cc speedfight engines could i transfer 100 delorto carb and gianeli sports exhaust and gearing to the 50cc engine? im not impressed with the outcome of tuned 100cc engines so i was thinking 70cc kit for the 50 with 100cc parts? all a game of trial and error but could you please advise regards ian.
July 21st, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Hi Ian,
You can do carb & manifold, the other parts won’t fit however
A 70cc kit / Pipe / Carb on a LC Model will produce something that is quicker than the 100cc model standard, however if you want that much more speed, it’s probably more productive to get a Piaggio/Gilera 125cc as they’re quicker standard and you won’t be having to buy a big bore kit and another exhaust on top of the 100cc tuning parts you now have

i am buying a 50cc speedfingt 2003, an i was wondering about derestricting it, as far as im aware, all the parts are the normal stock, and it aparantly only goes 37?
ill be buying a race pipe, but that may be a while, and im interesting in increasing its speed soon!
and also, how faster would it go once derestricted??
thanks, mike
July 25th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Hi Mike,
On Speedfights, if I remember correctly, there is a washer inbetween the pulleys or a plate on the rear of the variator you have to remove to derestrict it.
If you want a scooter for outright speed though, Piaggio/Gilera LC models are faster
July 25th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
ok, thanks for that!
just checking, as iv heard its the same concept in most scooters, but just in case i managed to mess it up somehow:)
thanks agen!

Hi,
I have a Speedfight 1 50cc LC and a Speedfight 2 100cc AC.
why is that? Here in belgium I can only do 25kph with the 50c with enormous fines if they catch you going faster. (talking bout >1000euros)
so i bought a 100cc (then IT can go as fast as i want, i only have to obey the traffic laws or pay a speeding ticket if i don’t (’round 150 euros)
but the 100cc goes (after a while 95-100 kph) i would like it to go 130 so i can keep running 90-100 without being full throttle) it needs some new parts and a service (the new parts are exhaust due to rust, tyres due to wear
and a normal service.
is this possible? for now it is standard. i’m going to fit the Koso dashboard and like i said i have to get it serviced. thats why i need the info ASAP so i can have it tuned at once and don’t need to pay for parts that i’ll have to replace again with tuning parts..
thanx in advance,
regards

Hi Joeri,
The 100cc Speedfight has a rarther week crank as standard, I’ve seen a few of these snapped before without any tuning, so it might be worth upgrading this first.
Either way, you can get 120cc big bore kits and LeoVince exhausts for them, but don’t expect massive performance gains, they are far from the best engines to tune.
August 4th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
jus ordered a 70cc malossi kit for my speedfight! the same as what u suggested! wat do u suggest i do to the carb as im keepin the standard corb on it!! how many jet sizes shall i go up? and how many miles do u suggest to run the cylinder in? funny enough i also have a leo vince zx also! will that work ok with the 70cc kit?

Hi
Ive Got a Speedfight 2 50cc LC
Upgrades -
LeoVince ZX
Malossi Multivar 2000 Variator
Malossi Fly Clutch
Malossi Kevlar Belt.
I am Getting Speeds of 60+
I now want my bike to go faster. So im thinking of buying -
Malossi MHR Replica 70cc Cylinder Kit
Malossi MHR Replica 50-70cc Exhaust
Malossi 19mm Carb
Also Maybe the Malossi Crankshaft. Do you think i need this?
And would the Speedfight 100cc Carb be better than the Malossi?
Cheers
August 10th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Don’t bother with the new exhaust, isn’t worth spending that much on to not gain *that* much on compared to the ZX
Get the 70 Kit, the crank I wouldn’t bother with it wont be making enough power to warrent a new crank
The difference between a Speedfight 100 carb and your Malossi one is 1.5mm, so naff all real world difference, get whatevers cheapest or comes available first, but remember you’ll need the Intake manifold changing to accept the new carb, which is the same as the Speedfight 100 model
August 10th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Do You Know what the Enki I-Valve induction kit would do aswell?
August 10th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
They just allow you to run carbs that don’t accept a vacuum and oil feed, but the Dell’orto (rebranded by Malossi) have them anyway
You do need to change the intake manifold anyway to one that’ll accept the Dell’orto carbs
http://forums.tunemyscooter.com for anymore questions, it needs a bit of life
EDIT: Sorry was looking at the ones for Minerelli engines, the one for the Peugeot is the one you need to run a different carb, considering it’s only £25 for the manifold and reedblock, theres no point getting a Speedfight 100 one off eBay because they go for that sort of money anyway.
http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.com/p/Enki-F2J-induction-kit-for-Peu-2133.aspx
August 12th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
would you suggest a malossi 19mm carb for a 70 kit and everything. or shuld i go bigger. say a 21mm or 24mm etc.
cheers
you are a great help!
August 12th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
19mm is more than enough, the 17.5mm works great too
Any larger and you’re just using extra petrol for minimal performance gains, infact it’ll make it worse at lower rpm’s that using a smaller carb.
August 15th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
For the carb..
I need to buy a new inlet manifold and reed block. Is this right?
I have seen a Doppler Inlet Manifold.
What is a reed block?
And is there a particularly good one?
Cheers
August 15th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
The Enki I-Valve induction kit is a reedblock and inlet manifold, so you might as well buy that to be honest
August 16th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

August 26th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
hi admin could you please expand on your written guides, speedfight 50cc,70cc pollini kit and reeds, 100cc dellorto carb as you suggested. now its got a .85 main jet in it up two sizes due to sports exhaust, i was provided with jets varying from .85 to 102 mm. if i put in a bigger jet it backfires even the .85 is to rich but downsizing is dropping power?have you got a jet size start point?
August 26th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Downsizing doesn’t mean a drop in power, you should need around 72-78 or so I think, been a while since I did one
August 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
admin can you reply to my question please thanks
August 27th, 2008 at 8:44 am

Hey i think i may have the same problem as freddie above. i have an AC speedfight 2. i have had a chrome gianelli exhaust put on and new weighted rollers at about 5.5g i think. the jets have been made bigger and my bike has very fast acceleration to about 15mph but after that the engine seems to lose some power and some days it will do 45-47 some days it will go at 37 , there is something wrong i wondered if you had any ideas , my bikes fully derestricted and should go alot faster than it does with the gianelli exhaust too.
HELP please!
October 5th, 2008 at 2:44 am

many thanks
lee
October 16th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
hya james get rid of the 5.5 rollers and try sum 7.5 because lighter rollers will make u set off faster but then ur top end will be shit try sum malossi 7.5 and what jets are u running it on bud
October 16th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
hya lee try a malossi air filter and a 90 main jet and a 30 pilot jet 7.5 roller’s and u should of got the rollers with the exhaust because the rollers go with the exhaust m8 and dont go buyin things that make it look nice when u want ur speed first bud i will try put a pic of my speedfight on m8

PS sum of those websites are in diff languages like spanish but i leard how to use it
October 18th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
jodeyrs50,
Why do you think people will listen to you over someone with my experience when you can’t even manage basic English in your posts?
Yes Hebo Manston Rep’s are good value, until you factor in the fact they don’t last very long as they’re poor quality, you have a good chance of the nicasil lining falling off, and the fact Hebo UK are THE WORST importer I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Please remember I’ve dealt with every stage of tuning 50cc’s, from basic tune ups to the full blown 23bhp+ monsters, I reccommend what I’ve found to be best from years of doing it as a mechanic
As for coming to race you? HA, don’t make me laugh. I’ve also had experience racing bikes properly, you know? On race tracks, not messing about on back roads like dumb fucks like you do thinking it’s “racing”
October 29th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
ive got a peugeot speed fight 2 and it dose about 57 mph can i make it go any faster ?
October 29th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Believe it or not there is a full guide on what to do at the top of the page…
November 2nd, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Hey admin, this shit is great… I have speed fight 2 liquid cooled 2005, and I wanna u 2 say me what should I do to get it faster and better acceleration. All performance is stock, and I wanna tune it but I don’t have a lot of money… Can u recommend me good cheap parts? tnx
November 2nd, 2008 at 1:54 pm
No such thing as good cheap parts, save up and do it properly or else you’ll just end up with a poorly working pile of crap that blows up alot
November 9th, 2008 at 1:51 am
can you make the speedo on a rs12 ludix blaster and aprillia sr 50 go over the50 mph ??
November 11th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
i have a ludix blaster and have just bought a doppler pipe for it do you recommend a jet upgrade and what size as i dont know what the original size is
November 13th, 2008 at 12:38 am
You don’t want to buy cheap parts for any bike tbh, spend 120 quid on a sports exhaust, laser x pro there good && 130 on a big bore kit and your speed fight will do about 80mph and it will be rapid acceleration.
November 13th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
if you dont put bigger jets in and new rollers it was pointless buying therace pipe
November 14th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
hey
thought this was the funniest webpage i’d seen in a while….love the way mr admin goes off with all the dickheads on here…funny as fuck
November 16th, 2008 at 1:41 am
you dont need new jets unless you have more air going to the engine if you get a new air filter you need new jets but get new rollers
November 21st, 2008 at 8:56 pm
I hav a speedfight 2 AC, i hav a viper exhaust and malossi multivar variator and am only achieving speeds of 45 on a flat, is this normal or is it some how still restrcited?
November 24th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
hi all i have a Malossi Multivar variator 2000 kit im going to fit has any body fitted one as im wondering do u have to fit the limiter washer between the plates ?
any help would be good
November 25th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
sam first uv got the best variator but it wont do owt wi that crap exhaust get a leo vince zx or a gianali reverse there the best for your scooter and jet it up to a size 72-78 and you will get up to 60mph my old speedfight did . i own a new speedfight 50lc witha airsal aluminium 70 kit realy torquey (twin bridge port) and a leo vince zx sf 100 carb and this kicks out 12 bhp and 72mph and only cost around 300 quid to tune but its outa control now iv put a evo kit under tray and loads of other mods now
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:26 pm
hi i have a speed fight 2 50cc air cooled and for ages now i have wanted it 2 go faster than the old speed witch was 37mph restricted. what i have done is get a malossi air filter, a Leo vice exhaust, racing rollers and i have deristricted my variator and now my bike will do 65mph on a flat witch is fast for a 50cc moped.
If u want to know how to deristrict your variator he you go first you take of your kickstat then you take of the plate and to your left there is another plate that you have to buzz gun off because it is so tight then there is another plate pull it off and on the back of it is a coupple of small bolts take them off and there is a plate pull the plate off put the plate back on then buzz gun the other plate on and your done. BELIEVE me you will see a big difference i might only be 16 but i sure know how to tune my moped
December 17th, 2008 at 6:12 pm

Hi I’ve got a 2001 speedfight AC with a pmtuning pig pipe and 6.5g rollers. I’m gona put a pollini70kit, a pmtuning air filter, a pollini 19mmcarb and a pollini 2g clutch and get it up jetted. Is it worth me putting on a gear up kit and new crank? And shud I put 3g rollers?
